Market Now: BSE Midcap index hits record high; Central Bank of India top gainer

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Midcap index hit a fresh record high of 16207.66 in Tuesday's trade.

BSE Midcap index was trading 0.29 per cent up at 16,195 around 12:40 pm (IST) with shares of Central Bank of India (up 4.72 per cent), Union Bank of India (up 4.18 per cent) and Bank of India (up 4.07 per cent) as the top gainers.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 40 points at 10,225, while the BSE Sensex was up 131 points at 32,638.

Canara Bank (up 3.53 per cent), IDBI Bank (up 3.47 per cent), Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company (up 3.37 per cent), Indian Bank (up 3.33 per cent) and NBCC (India) (up 3.23 per cent) were also gaining in the midcap index.

However, Havells India (down 5.79 per cent), LIC Housing Finance (down 2.61 per cent), Petronet LNG (down 1.72 per cent), Ajanta Pharma (down 1.68 per cent), Gillette India (down 1.22 per cent), Rajesh Exports (down 1.20 per cent), Whirlpool of India (down 1.18 per cent) and Reliance Communications (down 1.13 per cent) were trading in the green.

Among the 51 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 29 were trading in the green, while 21 were in the red.

State Bank of India, Oil and Natiral Gas Corporation, NTPC, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Hindustan Unilever and Maruti Suzuki were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.

On the other hand, Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro were among the top losers in the Sensex kitty.

On the BSE, 1,492 stocks were advancing whereas 1,063 stocks were lagging and 121 stocks were appearing unchanged.
