MYSURU: A solider’s attempt to marry for the ‘fifth time’ was foiled at a temple in Vijayanagar here after his first wife sent their wedding photos to the bride’s family through WhatsApp.

The priests and guests were stunned when the bride’s uncle created a ruckus and showed the photos of solider Shivananjappa’s first wedding.

Shivananjappa was taken to custody by Vijayanagar police based on a compliant lodged by his first wife Varalakshmi. Shivananjappa, a resident of Saligrama, had married Varalakshmi 10 years ago. He is also charged with dowry harassment. They fell apart two years after their wedding and he managed to marry another girl even when the divorce papers were yet to be issued.

His first wife also alleged that Shivananjappa, serving in Jammu, has married two other women.
Shivananjappa was also in trouble when he attempted to attack the police who went to serve an arrest warrant for not appearing before a court in the divorce case.

Varalakshmi, tracking his movement, exposed his plan to marry another girl, by sending their wedding pictures to the bride’s relatives.

“Apart from marrying me and another girl of my village, he has married two others. This should end and no woman should suffer as I have suffered,” she told reporters.

Shivananjappa, however, denied he has married other women. When they exhibited photos, he maintained that it is a mischief.

Shivananjappa charged that a few are against him as he had planned to enter politics after his retirement from service. He was released on bail by Vijayanagar police.
