The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will get some answer scripts of all postgraduate exams assessed by fifth evaluators. It is going back to the old system following a directive of the high court.

The move will be implemented with retrospective effect from even-semester exams held in May. It is expected to benefit a number of students who had failed to clear certain subjects. The passing percentage had reduced marginally. The students had alleged erratic evaluation by teams of four evaluators [two internal (from Karnataka) and two external (outside Karnataka)] and asked for a fifth evaluation from someone outside the state. “We will get certain papers assessed by fifth evaluators,” Dr M K Ramesh, the vice-chancellor, told DH. He, however, clarified that only answer scripts where the difference between marks awarded by each of the four evaluators is 15% or more will be sent for the fifth evaluation.

The answer scripts will be sent for the fifth evaluation within a week. “We want to complete the entire process, including the announcement of results, by October-end or the first week of November,” Ramesh added.

The university had the tradition of getting answer scripts assessed by five evaluators since its inception. The number of evaluators was reduced to three but increased to four later. “We’ve returned to the old system following a decision by the syndicate,” he said.
