It was shocking to read the report, “Leprosy erases their food source” (Sunday Special”, October 24), on the denial of rations to some 1.5 lakh people in Andhra Pradesh as they do not have necessary biometrics to prove their identity.
What is shameful is not the disease, but our ‘identification system’ that discriminates against such marginalised sections. Any national system for identification should be able to handle all types of exceptions before it is put to use.
