Special pujas offered as Nagula Chaviti, Kartika Somavaram coincide

Devotees offered special pujas in various temples in Krishna district as ‘Nagula Chaviti’ coincided with ‘Toli Kartika Somavaram’ (Monday).

Nagula Chaviti was observed with fervour at various snake mounds. Heavy rush was seen since dawn at the Nagendra and Subramanyeswara Swamy shrines where temple managements made special arrangements for the devotees. Cow milk, eggs, fruits, flowers and prasadams were offered to Nagendra Swamy. In some villages, people decorated the mounds with colourful rangoli and flowers. Devotees distributed prasadams and children burst crackers and celebrated the festival.

Lakhs take holy dip

Meanwhile, lakhs of devotees took a holy dip in the Bay of Bengal and the Krishna river on the first Monday of Kartika masam.

The Manginapudi beach at Machilipatnam and Suryalanka beach in Guntur district saw a heavy turnout of devotees while in the city and other places the devout thronged the bathing ghats along the Krishna and took a dip in the river.

Sivalayams reverberated with the chants of ‘Om Namasivaya’ and ‘Hara Hara Mahadeva’.

Serpentine queues were witnessed at the temples and the managements decorated the shrines with colourful flowers and ‘thoranams’.

Special pujas were offered at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Devastanam, Sri Parvathi Sametha Ramalingeswara Swamy temple and other shrines.
