Golmaal Again gets third-highest opening weekend box office collection for 2017; Baahubali 2, Raees still lead
Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn have yet again proved that when it comes to entertainment, nobody else understands the trade as well as them. Eleven years ago, in 2006, when this combo gave Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, they never thought that the comedy franchise would turn out to be the mammoth force it is today. With three super hits — Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 — and now the latest addition Golmaal Again, the film franchise has emerged as one of the most successful ones in the film industry.
This year's Diwali release, Golmaal Again, has set the cash registers ringing. The film is now among the top opening-weekend grossers this year, with a whopping collection of Rs 87.60 crore, as reported by BollywoodHungama. It has surpassed the opening collections of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil and stands third only after SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Raees which occupy the top two slots with revenues amounting to Rs 123 crore and Rs 93.24 crore respectively.
However, according to Koimoi.com, the film received the highest opening this year, on the first day of its release. Golmaal Again minted Rs 30.14 on its day of release setting the film at the numero-uno position on the list of 2017's highest openers so far. It is followed by Salman Khan's Tubelight (Rs 21.15 crore) and Raees (Rs 20.42 crore).
Golmaal Again, touted to be a horror comedy, stars Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tabu, Tusshar Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu.
