CHENNAI: The general council-cum-executive committee meeting of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP scheduled to be held in Karur on Tuesday is likely to discuss many issues including the R K Nagar by-election. The meet would discuss whether to field its own candidate or to support the candidate to be fielded by the ruling faction of the AIADMK. The decision will be announced after getting the nod of the national leadership.
Sources said that as of now, the State unit’s priorities are the next Lok Sabha elections and the the State Assembly election if it is advanced for any reason. Since the ruling faction of the AIADMK is extending its support to the Central government on many issues, in the changed political scenario, the idea of supporting the ruling faction in the RK Nagar by-election will be deliberated upon.
Local body elections, the increasing criticism against the party on various issues in Tamil Nadu and the status of the membership drive are among the other issues to be discussed.
State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao and other leaders will take part. This time, those in charge of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies have been invited as special invitees.
