The city police arrested Kalidasu Subramanyam, a rowdy-sheeter, who allegedly tried to purchase a weapon from a criminal. Police are verifying whether the accused had procured any weapons earlier.
Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang told newsmen here on Monday that Subramanyam, a native of Tenali in Guntur district, was facing trial in a murder and an attempt to murder cases and the local police externed him from Tenali.
He was staying with his brother in Rachakonda Police Commissionerate limits in Telangana and came in contact with one Eshwar Reddy, who stayed for some time Chhattisgarh and purchased weapons from one Pappu of Bihar.
The Rachakonda police apprehended Eshwar Reddy and his accomplice Sunil Kumar, who reportedly confessed that Subramanyam had asked them for a weapon.
Police are trying to find out why the rowdy-sheeter tried to purchase the weapon, and whether he hatched any conspiracy, Mr. Sawang said.
The accused was staying with his mother, who stays at Rajarajeswari Peta in the city. He would be handed over to Telangana police for further investigation, said Joint Commissioner of Police B.V. Ramana Kumar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police T.K. Rana and other officers were present.
