Actor Dileep, currently in the eye of a storm over his alleged involvement in the absexual assault of a woman actor, has told the police that he faced security threats from those who had trapped him in a criminal case.
In a terse reply served to M.S. Faizal, SI, Aluva East, the actor stated that he had held preliminary discussion with the Goa-based private security agency but was yet to hire its services. The explanatory note was given to the police through a messenger on Monday.
Earlier, the police had served Dileep a notice demanding explanation on the reports about him engaging a private security team, besides details about the weapons carried by his body guards. Sources said the actor’s move to engage the agency without approaching the police had indeed irked the Special Investigation Team.
Besides seeking details from the actor, the police had also carried out a preliminary examination on the security firm, the Kerala unit of which is headed by a retired IPS officer. Three days ago, a police team had taken two vehicles of the team into custody and released them after a detailed inspection.
Officials said the police were only seeking to ensure that the actor was not misusing the facility to influence the investigation against him. “It is common for people to engage private security. In this case, we are bound to inquire if such acts do affect the investigation,” said a top official with the Ernakulam Rural Police.
