Coimbatore: A 28-year-old woman, along with her three children, petitioned the district collector, T N Hariharan, on Tuesday seeking action against a family in her neighbourhood that duped her of Rs 4 lakh.
R Manipriya, 28, of Nallampalayam, in her compliant said the family members had also threatened her of dire consequences when she asked them to return the money.
Manipriya said she had been residing in a rental house along with her husband Thangadurai, a car driver, and three children. "We sold our property located at Kavundampalayam for Rs 4 lakh. At that time, our neighbour Thilagavathi, 40, and her son Sudhakar, 22, approached us for Rs 4 lakh for the treatment of her husband Senthilkumar. We gave them the amount but there is no document to prove such a transaction took place," she said.
When Manipriya and her husband approached Thilagavathi and family on October 18 demanding the money back, they denied having borrowed the money and allegedly threatened them with dire consequences. "We were threatened by Thilagavathi, Sudhakar and her relatives Baskaran, Malar and Mala," Manipriya said.
The couple immediately approached the Thudiyalur police, but they did not take any action.
"Thilagavathi and her family members are demanding Rs 2 lakh from us and threatened us with dire consequences," said Manipriya who along with her children met the collector at the district collectorate on Tuesday.
The collector has forwarded the petition to the district superintendent of police, Pa Moorthy who has directed the Thudiyalur police to conduct a detailed inquiry.
