Indore: In order to improve campus placements, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya has decided to invite people from the industry for imparting training to its students and making them employable during their studies. “Our priority is not only to teach students but to make them employment ready. If people from industries will come to our campus to train our students, their employability will surely enhance,” said in charge registrar Ajay Verma, adding that this move will be beneficial to both students as well as the industry.
“While students will become employment worthy, the industry will be able to train students as per their requirements for free. This will save their time and money. Otherwise the industry will have to train students after hiring them,” Verma said. About 50 per cent of UTD students from professional courses get employment through campus placements every year. The university has planned to take the figure to 75 per cent in a year.
While it collaborates with the industry for periodically updating its syllabi, the university wants to engage the industry in larger role. “We will not only invite industry men to the university for training our students but also appoint those wishing to work with us as adjunct faculty,” Verma said.
Institute of Management Studies placement officer Avnish Vyas said that they had previously invited Deloitte officials to train management students. “They trained our students as per their requirements and picked up more than 80 per cent of the trained students. Now we are going to invite Axis Bank and CSE company officials to our campus,” he added.
DAVV central placement cell chairman Govind Maheshwari said that “About 80 per cent of the students of UTD studies in these five departments. So, our efforts will be to get students of these departments trained first at the hands of industry men.” Maheshwari also stated that the industry men would take students to their facilities to give students hands-on experience.
