Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway: Four killed in three accidents

The police said the accident took place near the Kashmir Punjab Hotel at 1.15 pm when the bike skidded and crashed into a divider.

Four persons were killed in three accidents on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway over the weekend. Two bikers were killed on the stretch of the highway in Vasai on Saturday afternoon after the rider lost control. The police said the accident took place near the Kashmir Punjab Hotel at 1.15 pm when the bike skidded and crashed into a divider. The rider, Vicky Kushwaha, and the pillion rider Atul Kushwaha suffered serious head injuries and were declared dead after passersby rushed them to hospital.

At 7.30 am on Sunday in Virar, a pedestrian identified as Deepak Jadhav (45) died after an unidentified vehicle going towards Gujarat ran over him. Jadhav, who suffered severe injuries to her head and arms, died at the spot, the police said.

Later on Sunday, a woman identified as Sangita Mishra was crossing the highway at Dhanivari village in Dahanu at 2.20 pm, when a speeding car crushed her. The police said the driver of the car fled after the collision. Mishra was declared dead after being taken to the police station. A case of rash and negligent driving and causing death due to negligence has been registered at Kasa police station.
