The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday extended the stay on the FIR proceedings initiated by Tiruchi police against the sidelined AIADMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran and actor Senthil.

Taking up the petitions filed by them for hearing, Justice S.S. Sundar extended the stay after the respondents sought time in the case. Tiruchi MP P. Kumar had filed a complaint with Tiruchi Crime Branch police alleging that actor Senthil in an interview to a private TV channel had used derogatory language and instigated the supporters of T.T.V. Dhinakaran against him.

Tiruchi police had booked a case under Section 153 (promoting enmity between groups), Section 294 (b) (reciting obscene words in public), Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 109 (abetment of crime) of the Indian Penal Code.

Actor Senthil had filed a petition before the Madurai Bench saying that Tiruchi police had no jurisdiction in the case and political motive was the reason behind it. He alleged that the case was registered without conducting a preliminary enquiry.

Following the petition filed by Mr. Senthil, Mr. Dhinakaran filed a petition seeking to quash the FIR. The case has been posted for further hearing to November 3.
