The 2-Million Monthly Advertisers Mark

Instagram now has more than 2 million monthly active advertisers, double its advertiser base six months ago. Mobile video is driving growth for the platform; the company data shows that time spent watching video on Instagram is up more than 80 per cent year-over-year, while the number of videos produced per day has increased four time since last year.

A company blog post said, “Our business community has grown to 2 million advertisers, up from 1 million back in March. People come to Instagram every day to share their passions and connect with what matters, and they are spending more time than ever on the platform producing and exploring content, especially mobile video.” Instagram launched ads on Stories in March, 2017.

Last month 180 million Instagrammers visited the website, got directions, called, emailed or direct messaged to learn about a business.

Over 50 per cent of the company’s business last month came from Instagram Story. Stories now have more than 250 million daily users. Company data shows that it has also helped in increasing the amount of time people spend on Instagram. Users under the age of 25 now spend more than 32 minutes a day on average on the platform.

“As mobile video continues to evolve the ways advertisers reach and engage customers, Instagram’s immersive family of tools is helping define the future of how people connect with the things that matter,” the blog post added.

Allo Web For iOS & Firefox

Google’s messaging app Allo has started its web functionality for iOS and browsers such as Firefox and Opera. In August, the messaging app had rolled out support for web, but it was restricted to Google’s own browser Chrome. For iOS or Android phone users to log on to Allo Web, they will need to download the app, then use a QR code to sync it to the browser. Similar to Whatsapp Web, the functionality requires both the phone and the desktop to be connected to the Internet for the sync to work. Allo was launched last year at the Google I/O event.

eMarketer lowered its growth projections for Facebook Messenger through 2021 in favour of sister application Instagram and rival Snapchat. The research firm found that Messenger dominated the chat app market in the US, with 125.4 million users, up 7.5 per cent compared with 2016. But with teens and young adults (age 18 through 24) engaging less with Messenger and more with Snapchat and Instagram, it lowered its projections for Messenger user growth by 9.4 million users from its first-quarter numbers. WhatsApp will have 20.5 million US users in 2017, up 9.5 per cent from the previous year, according to eMarketer.
