Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) has partnered with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) to reduce overall energy consumption by 20-25% at its premises and factories in a bid to meet its commitment of bringing down carbon emissions.
Project investment
Mahindra on Monday said it had collaborated with EESL for replacing LED lights with energy efficient (EE) alternatives across its 18 manufacturing facilities in India. The installation is complete and will save 20 million units of electricity per annum for the company. Mahindra had invested ₹16 crore in this project which has a pay back period of one year.
EESL provided technical assistance, cost efficient procurement and project management services for this initiative.
“This collaboration is EESL’s first private sector engagement to promote energy efficient appliances in a working space and is aimed at encouraging the private sector to adopt EE appliances,” said Saurabh Kumar, MD, EESL.
“This partnership marks a very significant step toward promoting energy efficient lifestyle among corporates and large facilities in India. We are very happy that M&M has undertaken this initiative and has set an example for the industry. We look forward to more such collaborations,” Mr. Kumar said.
As per this collaboration, EESL is also conducting energy audit at six manufacturing facilities of Mahindra to explore further energy saving opportunities, including waste heat recovery, energy efficient motors and heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.
‘Not cost venture’
“At Mahindra, we view sustainability as a vital business strategy,” said Pawan Goenka, MD, M&M. “Sustainability, in fact, saves money. It is not a cost venture.
“As a responsible organisation not only have we adopted energy efficient solutions in our manufacturing facilities but have also encouraged our suppliers, dealer partners and employees to do so, to reduce carbon emissions for a cleaner and greener tomorrow.”
Under this programme, EESL will enable Mahindra to manage its energy needs efficiently and affordably. EESL will also help Mahindra in training and capability building of its employees to use the new energy efficient equipment and adopt efficient practices to conserve energy.
