Short films based on the lives of people in Britain during the 1940s will be screened today

The British Council in partnership with Social as part of UK-India year of culture, will be showcasing specially-curated short films based on the lives of people in Britain during 1940’s, at a time of immense social, political and cultural revolution. The movies bring a slice of nostalgia and a tale of human spirit to endure under difficult circumstances.

Some of the movies to be showcased are Morning Paper, which follows the production of an issue of The Times during the Blitz, from the daily editorial conference to the printing presses. London 1942 chronicles London during the midst of World War II and illustrates the changes in daily life brought about by the pressures of war.

Man of the Beat is about the training and principles of police officers, their duties whilst on the beat, and their role within the community. Island People shows a cross-section of people across Britain spending Saturday - the day divided between work and recreation. The People's Land is a Technicolor guide to some of the coastline, countryside, and properties preserved by the National Trust. Queen Cotton is a Technicolor introduction to the manufacture and design of both woven and printed cotton fabrics, the products of which are presented in a stunning fashion show.

Royal Road takes a look at both the public-facing activities of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) during the Second World War, as well as a showing a glimpse of the royal family’s private life in the gardens at Windsor.

The movies will be screened on October 24 at Social, Church Street from 7 pm to 9 pm and 9 pm to 11 pm. To register, please contact: Nishanth (8105322462) or mail nishanth@socialoffline.in
