Government chief whip Ivan D’Souza and MLA Abhaychandra Jain jostle with each other as they wait to welcome CM Siddaramaiah at Mangaluru Airport

MANGALURU: Chinks in the armour of Dakshina Kannada unit of Congress came to the fore on Sunday during CM Siddaramaiah’s visit. Government’s chief whip Ivan D’Souza and former minister Abhaychandra Jain who do not see eye to eye almost clashed with each other in their race to impress the Chief Minister. Both along with their followers were waiting at the airport seperately with placards to welcome the Chief Minister.

When he arrived, they jostled with each other to welcome him first. Jain was caught on camera elbowing Ivan. Sources said the two leaders also exchanged some heated words. Jain, who represents Moodabidri assembly constituency has already announced that he will not contest the 2018 election and is said to be backing Congress leader Mithun Rai as his successor. On the other hand, Ivan who is close to Chief Minister has also set his eyes on the same seat. Mithun, a follower of Energy Minister D K Shivakumar was seen with him during the events.
