Market Now: BSE Midcap index outperforms Sensex; Reliance Communications up 8%

NEW DELHI: The BSE Midcap index was outperforming benchmark Sensex in afternoon trade on Monday.

The S&P BSE MidCap index was trading 0.23 per cent up at 16,114 around 01:15 pm (IST), while Sensex was 0.14 per cent down at 32,346. The Nifty50 index was 0.12 per cent down at 10,134.

In the midcap index, shares of Reliance Communications (up 7.60 per cent), Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company (up 3.71 per cent), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (up 3.64 per cent), Shriram Transport Finance Company (up 3.26 per cent), Page Industries (up 3.26 per cent) and Tata Communications (up 3.07 per cent) were the top gainers.

On the contrary, Biocon (down 3.92 per cent), Godrej Industries (down 2.56 per cent), NLC India (down 2.50 per cent), Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (down 2.31 per cent), Ajanta Pharma (down 2.18 per cent), Crisil (down 2.06 per cent) and Reliance Power (down 1.89 per cent) were among the top losers in the index around the same time.

Shares of Unitech, JP Associates, Reliance Comm, Idea Cellular, Suzlon Energy, JSPL, HDIL, BHEL, South Indian Bnk, Hind Const Co, IDFC and JSW Energy were among the most traded securities on the National Stock Exchange.

Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Hero MotoCorp, Coal India and Infosys were the top gainers in the Sensex index.

On the other hand, Cipla, HDFC, Axis Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Lupin and Asian Paints were among the top losers of the Sensex kitty.

On the BSE, 1,099 stocks were advancing whereas 1,453 stocks were lagging and 138 stocks were appearing unchanged.
