Sonowal flags off cycling event, says it will boost tourism

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today flagged off the MTB Tawang Challenge Cycling Competition and expressed confidence that it would give a "new dimension" to tourism in the state.

The cycling competition is organised by the state government's Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, and will coincide with the forthcoming Tawang Festival, 2017.


"The initiative of the to organise the Tawang Challenge cycling competition to promote the Tawang Festival is very praiseworthy. This will definitely help in giving a new dimension to tourism of the state as well as the entire North Eastern region," Sonowal said.

The chief minister said that Prime Minister Modi aims at giving a new boost to the growth of North East through implementation of the Act East Policy, and all the states in the region must join hands with the Centre for fulfilling his vision.

Several cyclists from all over the country have taken part in the cycling competition, which will cover 500 km of difficult terrain during the six-day journey culminating on October 28.
