GANDHINAGAR: In the backdrop of a fast unfolding political drama, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi welcomed OBC leader Alpesh Thakore to his party here in Gandhinagar on Monday.
Terming GST Gabbar Singh Tax, Gandhi said the new tax regime has destroyed scores of small businessmen and unless it is simplified, the country will end up suffering.
Addressing a mammoth gathering, Gandhi also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and observed that everyone in the state is involved in one or the other agitation.
Extending olive branches to two other prominent youth agitators Hardik Patel and Jignesh Mevani, Rahul said the youth of the state are unable to stay quiet as they have been harassed so much.
In an indirect dig at BJP, Rahul said the voice of Gujarat cannot be bought with all the money in the world. Earlier in the day he had tweeted "Gujarat is priceless. It has never been bought. It can never be bought. It will never be bought", in connection with the allegation of bribing by the party by PAAS Mehsana convenor Narendra Patel.
As a matter of fact, Rahul's visit assumed immense significance due to the fast-paced political developments in the state over last 96 hours.
