NOIDA: Traders under the banner of Sector 18 Market Owners Association have appealed to the Noida Authority to streamline parking in the area and reduce it to a single lane arrangement. The much-awaited multilevel parking at Sector 18 opens for trials on October 30.
The association has also requested the authority to remove parking from outside showrooms to help visitors have a better shopping experience. In a list of demands, they have placed a request for adding two more entrances to the Sector 18 Metro station, which at present has only two entrances. The shopkeepers also complained about the non-functional street lights in the area. A provision for fixtures like benches and sitting arrangements were also requested.
"The first phase of development is over, but the second phase is in still in progress. The parking lot has been long overdue, but we hope once it starts, the roadside parking issue will be resolved. Since Sector 18 is an open plaza, it is important to create walking space for shoppers. It is not a mall, so traffic management is crucial for the safety and comfort of those exploring the market. This was also the original plan while the new design was being developed. The main market of Sector 18 is the heart of all commercial activity surrounding it. Hence it is important that it remains free and accessible," Sushil Kumar Jain, president, Sector 18 Market Owners Association, claimed.
Sector 18 has been under renovation for the past few years. The multi-level parking is part of the renovation plans.
Once complete, it is expected to take the parking load off the inner roads of the sector and leave more open space for pedestrians.
