Discharge from Mettur Dam comes down to 15,000 cusecs

Following sharp fall in the realisation of water in River Cauvery at Mettur for the third consecutive day, the discharge from the Mettur Dam for the farm operations in the Cauvery basin was brought down on Saturday.

According to Public Works Department (PWD) sources, the discharge from Mettur Dam was brought down to 15,000 cusecs at 9 a.m. on Saturday, from 20,000 cusecs.

There has been a fall in the inflow into Mettur Dam on Saturday. The dam received an inflow of 5,799 cusecs on Thursday, 5,001 cusecs on Friday and 5,474 cusecs on Saturday.

The water level, which stood at 98 ft on October 16, has dipped to 93.93 ft on Saturday.

This is the second time that discharge has been decreased since the sluices of the Stanley Reservoir were opened for farm operations in delta districts on October 2.

The PWD authorities brought down the discharge from 18,000 cusecs to 16,000 cusecs on October 14 and stepped it up to 20,000 cusecs on the night of October 16.
