GUNTUR: Police arrested a home guard and four others for indulging in cricket betting and seized Rs 1,03,500 and 4,500 grams of silver ornaments from the possession of the accused here on Saturday.
Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao said the police arrested one bookie Kothuri Rama Koteswara Rao, two sub-bookies Nattava Narendra Kumar and Oruganti Madhava Reddy, one assistant Kothuri Amarnath Kasi and one home guard Ammisetty Koteswara Rao for indulging in cricket betting. The police seized cash, silver ornaments, a laptop, a swipe machine and Rs 10.89 lakh worth promissory notes in the raid.
Polisetty Manga Raju, a resident of Sitanagaram in Guntur, lodged a complaint against cricket betting on October 17. Following which, a police team led by DSP P Srinivas conducted raids and arrested the accused. Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao appreciated the team involved in nabbing the accused.
