Woman, son arrested in murder case

A mother and her son were arrested by the Negamam Police on Saturday on charges of murder.

According to police, the deceased V. Sasikumar, a daily wage earner, was thrashed by the woman Nagamani and her sons S. Arunkumar and S. Sasikumar in a quarrel that erupted during a brawl. Neighbours rushed the victim with bleeding injuries to the hospital, but he died en-route.

Police arrested Nagamani and her Sasikumar, while Arunkumar was said to be under treatment at a private hospital in the city for the injuries sustained.

Case registered

Sai Baba Colony police on Saturday registered cases against six conservancy workers on contract on charges of intimidating the superior officer and preventing him from discharging his duty. It was learnt that zonal sanitary officer Radhakrishnan was said to have assigned some work to the six workers, who refused to carry it out and allegedly picked up an argument and intimidated him. Based on his complaint, a case was registered against the six.

Elephant triggers panic

An elephant that strayed into brick kilns in Thadagam area triggered panic among the residents. Forest officials have commenced a drive bursting of crackers and beating drums to chase the elephant back into the forest. Anti Depredation squad members have been posted in the area in large numbers.

House burgled

Unidentified men gained entry into the house of a private firm staff John Kennedy (51) on Bharathi Park Road at Sai Baba colony by breaking open the front door and decamped with gold jewellery. Special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
