Close on the heels of their latest release Mersal, Sri Thenandal films revealed that Bollywood actor Disha Patani would play the titular role in their upcoming Sangamithra.
The film, said to be a Tamil historical drama, will be dubbed in Telugu and Hindi.
The prestigious project was launched earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival and was to star Shruti Haasan as Sangamithra.
The actor opted out of the project after the launch and her spokesperson stated that while she had been preparing for her role, she had to give the film a miss since she was given neither a proper bound script nor a proper date calendar by the makers.
Big budget movie
Reported to have a massive budget, the movie, to be directed by Sundar C., will be released in two parts.
Hema Rukmani, CEO of Thenandal Entertainment, tweeted on Saturday that Disha Patani would be playing Sangamitra.
The actor had starred in the biopic of cricketer M.S. Dhoni alongside Sushant Singh Rajput, who played the lead role.
‘Excited about project’
Disha Patani tweeted on Saturday stating that she was excited to be part of the project.
Sangamithra also stars Jayam Ravi and Arya and the shooting of the film is expected to commence in December.
A.R. Rahman has been roped in to compose music for the film.
