Margao: Gram sabha members of the Camurlim village panchayat in South Goa on Sunday decided to announce a fine of Rs 5,000 on those found littering the village as well as a reward of Rs 1,000 to those who catch and photograph the violators.
Sarpanch Basilio Fernandes told TOI that the gram sabha also unanimously resolved to oppose the proposed nationalisation of rivers and transportation of coal.
"Besides, another resolution was passed raising the house tax from the present Rs 5 to Rs 6. The villagers also inquired about the overnight erection of a mobile tower at Dollavaddo without the requisite permissions from the village panchayat. Now, a showcause notice has been pasted on the tower demanding that the documents be produced, else it will be treated as illegal with action taken as per the law," Fernandes said.
Other issues raised at the meeting included bad stretches of roads along the state highway passing through the village, wherein it was informed to the gram sabha members that a representation was presented to the PWD requesting urgent repairs. "We have received a circular that JAICA was to commence its work on October 15, but nothing has begun yet. I have asked our MLA to address the issues plaguing the village," he said.
