BHUBANESWAR: The Special Judge of CBI court here on Saturday granted permission to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay for attending United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in New York from October 27 to November 1.The court also directed Sudip to submit his passport by November 8. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had approved the MP’s name along with eight other members to be part of a committee to represent the country in UNGA.

“Sudip will attend five sessions during the UNGA meeting in New York,” his lawyer Siddharth Das told the newspaper. The MP had earlier approached the Orissa High Court for granting him permission to attend UNGA meeting. However, he was asked to approach the Special CBI court regarding the matter.
The High Court had earlier granted conditional bail to Sudip in May, 2017.

The court had directed Sudip to deposit a sum of `25 lakh in any nationalised bank and furnish a bail bond of two sureties of `50,000 each.Among other conditions, the MP was asked to submit his passport in the trial court and cooperate with the investigating officer as and when required.Sudip was arrested on January 3 by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the `17,000 crore Rose Valley Group chit fund scam case, which is being probed by the central agency under the Supreme Court’s directions.
