Kidambi Srikanth has now won five Super Series title.

Kidambi Srikanth continued his phenomenal run as he defeated South Korea’s Lee Hyun Il 21-10, 21-5 to win Denmark Open 2017 title on Sunday. Srikanth, who made it into the final with 21-18, 21-17 win over China’s Wong Wing Ki, dominated the game right from the word go as he won the opening game 21-10 in just 12 minutes.

The 24-year old took an 11-1 lead in the second game as Lee Hyun found it difficult to make a comeback against Srikanth. The lanky Indian shuttler finished the game comfortably, in just 25 minutes.

“Definitely, it was a good game. But I think, he must have been tired after yesterday’s long match. And I am really happy the way I played today and thanks to everyone for supporting me throughout the week. I am looking forward to coming next year too and defend this title,” said the Indian shuttler after the win.

“I expected it to be a much better one. He has an experience of turning the game after losing the first game. I was really tensed after winning the first game so easily and wanted to keep the focus going on in the second game. My game did the job for me,” he added.

With French Open to begin from October 24, Srikanth said that he will be taking small steps. “I’m really not thinking of winning the title directly because the following tournaments are really very tough. However, winning the first round is my priority.”

With the win in Denmark, Srikanth has now won five Super Series title – Denmark Open (2017), Australia Open (2017), Indonesia Open(2017), India Open (2015) and China Open (2014). In the quarter-final match, Srikanth stunned reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen 14-21, 22-20, 21-7 in a match that lasted 57 minutes.
