Celebrations of Kali puja end on a musical note

Nagpur: A musical show, hosted to mark the culmination of Kali puja celebrations, got a little grander this year. Organized by Sarbajanin Shree Shree Kali Puja Committee of CPWD Colony, Civil Lines, the show was held for the first time at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall, on Sunday evening.
The highlight of this year's music event was a presentation by artistes of Musicolor, a Mumbai-based group specializing in concept-based retro shows. Ashok Das, Sanjay Korgaokar, Santosh Subramanium, Sangita Nair and Sharmili Kashyap collaborated with Surabhi Dhomne and local musicians to give a stellar music performance. Energy minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule was the chief guest at the event.
The programme began with an energetic dance performances by tiny tots Natasha and Anwesha Dey, aged 5 and 7 respectively. It was followed by a commendable rendition of 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' by ten-year old Sorodip Nag. Rajesh Subramanian, founder of Musicolor, was the host of the evening.
Signalling the start of melodies, Dhomne sang Bengali devotional song 'Mago tumi sarbojanin'. It was followed by Kashyap's rendition of 'Yeh sama' and 'Aanewala pal', sung by Subramanium. The playlist was a mix of classic Bollywood and Bengali songs to take listeners down memory lane.
'Yeh sham mastani', 'Apna dil toh aawara', 'Aajkal tere mere', 'Jai jai Shiv Shankar', 'Jhumka gira re' and 'Kajra mohabbatwala' were some of the songs. After a slew of 25 songs, Kashyap, Korgaokar and Subramanium presented a medley of five songs, including 'Mera naam chin chin chin' and 'Eena meena deeka'.
The artistes then presented another medley, this time consisting of nearly 15 songs, a mix of classic and contemporary melodies, including 'Shaam dhale', 'Bholi si surat', 'Tune maari entry', 'Ek do teen' and 'Jahan teri yeh nazar hai'. All the singers then came together to present evergreen song 'Bambai se aaya mera dost'.
This was the 57th year of Kali puja celebrations which was marked with a host of activities such as cultural night, drawing, rangoli and sports competitions and bhog distribution.
The programmes began on October 19 and ended with the music event which used to be held at the colony.
