DVAC registers case against six govt. staff

The Directorate Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) police registered a case against five government employees working at the Panchayat Union office in Udhagamandalam as well as a contractor after a raid revealed that they were holding unaccounted money at the office.

According to sources in the DVAC in the Nilgiris, the police had received complaints of corruption from people visiting the Panchayat Union office.

The police conducted a raid at the office on October 17 and found more than ₹ 73,000 in unaccounted cash inside the office.

They questioned seven persons in connection with the incident and registered a case against six.

The six accused were identified as Ramesh Kumar, an assistant engineer, assistant block development officer, Ramachandran, as well as three other employees - Rajesh, Prabhakaran and Sikkandar Basha.

The contractor Durairaj was also booked by the police.

The unaccounted cash has been seized and police are investigating.
