Blaze in tin shed kills 6 rabbits, leads cops to illegal oil racket

A blaze that broke out in a tin shed in Rewari, in which six rabbits were burnt alive, led police to an illegal oil racket being run by the owner. According to police, the incident took place a day after Diwali. The owner of the shed — who had been taking care of the animals — was involved in the illegal purchase and sale of oil, “which was stored in the shed and may have aggravated the fire”.

Police sources said Singh purchased oil from the drivers of tankers at low prices, and then re-sold them at inflated prices, without proper documentation or licensing. Once the fire was doused, police personnel found six drums in the shed.

“We have seized the drums as well as two vehicles, and registered a case. The matter is being investigated,” said sub-inspector (SI) Dinesh Kumar.
