BENGALURU: A 28-year-old married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house in BTM Layout on Friday. The parents alleged that their daughter Netra was poisoned to death by her in-laws over dowry.

A senior police officer said Netra, a homemaker, was married to Uday Kumar five years ago after they fell in love. Uday, a daily wager, had gone out when the incident occurred and her in-laws are being questioned. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Netra collapsed around 10.30pm after having dinner. She vomited blood and was rushed to a private hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Mico Layout police were informed about the incident and the body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death and based on the complaint, investigations are on to establish whether she consumed poison or her in-laws were responsible,” a police officer said.

Netra’s mother Nagarathna alleged in the complaint that neither Uday nor his parents informed them about the incident. She came to know about Nethra’s death only when police contacted her. “Uday and his parents were demanding dowry from her and used to often assault her. That night, they mixed poison in her food and forced her to eat it. So they are directly responsible for her death. A complaint of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide has been filed”, Nagarathna said.
