9:35 PM IST: 66, 413 is the official attendance tonight. And this, ladies and gentlemen is an Under-17 World Cup record.
9:33 PM IST: GOALLLLL!!!!!!! Brazil takes lead 2-1. Paulinho’s screamer does the magic for the junior Selecaos. Take a bow Paulinho, you beauty! The media tribune too cheers as Brazil go to thank the crowd.
9:31 PM IST: Brazil on the attack again!! But Paulinho’s left-footer misses top left corner.
9:30 PM IST: Now, this water-break should come in handy for Germany because Brazil have piled up the pressure.
9:27 PM IST: GOAL!!!! Weverson equalises as Yuba Bharati goes berserk.
It has happened and it is Weverson, the left-back who came as a second-half sub. Thunder and lightning rolled into one in that shot.
9:25 PM IST: Man, sure doesn’t look like a Brazil night given how the ball for Paulinho was just not weighted right. Could have been 2 goals for Brazil so far but they are trailing 0-1.
9:24 PM IST: Jann-Fiete Arp attempts a weak righ-footer but again it is off-target.
9:22 PM IST: Lincoln has made some fast runs into German box but has not been able to find the target so far. Brazil are yet to be defeated in this competition but this match has put them under pressure.
9:20 PM IST: Germany’s Sahverdi Cetin is lying on the ground. He suffered a strain on hip it seems. He is receiving medical attention.
9:16 PM IST: Brazil reply with a pressing attack. But Lincoln’s shot is off-target. German goalkeeper was in good position.

9:14 PM IST: Josha Vagnoman’s header off a corner goes over the bar in the 56th minute. Germany’s dominance has continued in the second half as well
9:08 PM IST: Referee doesn’t blow in Brazil’s favour and the stadium howls in protest.
9:05 PM IST: Brazil out of the blocks first but Germany don’t keep them waiting. The most important change has happened for Brazil: left-back Candido makes way for Weverson who had a back injury and had missed the pre-quarter final.
8:48 PM IST: Looks like it will be the toughest half-time Brazil coach Amadeu has had so far since arriving in India. Half-time in Kolkata and Brazil ARE TRAILING!
8:46 PM IST: Yet another chance for Germany but Sahverdi Cetin’s shot is off-target. Brazil defence under too uch pressure.
8:44 Pm IST: Nicolas-Gerrit Kühn fouls a Brazil player but the resulting free-kick results in nothing. Pressure still on Brazil.
8:40 PM IST: Asked at the pre-match conference about the influence of different cultures in their team, coach Christian Wueck had spoken of the beneficial influence of “several mentalities” and mentioned Yeboah as a case in point. Now we know why!
8:37 PM IST: Arp’s header from centre of the box misses the target.
8:34 PM IST: Germany may have had starting trouble but they seem to be crusing on Autobahn now. Kuehn’s speed on the left is proving to be a lot for Brazil and there is Yeboah causing a lot of trouble on the right. Brazil don’t seem to have their flanks covered.
8:30 PM IST: Brazil comes up with a counter-attack. But Bremmer’s right-footer is too weak to challenge German goalkeeper Luca Plogmann.
8:29 PM IST: It will need all of coach Amadeu’s skills as a teacher to ensure Brazil stay calm. The water break couldn’t have come in at a better time.
8:28 PM IST: What a miss! Arp’s right-footer misses the post. Brazil are clearly under pressure at the moment.
8:24 PM IST: What a miss!! Elias Abouchabaka is off-target for Germany . The No.10’s left-footer goes wide.
8:21 PM IST: GOALLLL!!! And Jann-Fiete Arp does it without a burp! Germany lead 1-0.
For the second time in this competition, Brazil trail. The last time that happened was against Spain in the opener.
8:18 PM IST: Penalty for Germany! Yeboah was fouled
8:13 PM IST: Good block there! Germany’s John Yeboah attempted a left footed shot from right side of the box but it does Brazil no harm.
8:12 PM IST: Paulinho is setting the tone in the midfield for Brazil. If it goes like this, Germany will need dollops of patience to keep Brazil at bay and look to hit on the break.
8:10 PM IST: Both teams have got one corner each in the first 10 minutes but Brazil have been more incisive in their attacks.
8:05 PM IST: Close shave there! Brazil are denied by the post. Alan attempted a brillaint right-footer from centre of the box but he failed to give Brazil the lead.
8:00 PM IST: And Salt Lake stadium goes “Brazzil, Brazzil”, as action begins in the mega-clash
7:55 PM IST: However as much as Brazil feel like home, the soul-stirring rendition of the Hino Nacional Brasiliero can't be replicated away from home. The way they did it in 2014 when Brazil played will live in the memory of all those who were there.
7:50 PM IST: Teams all set to emerge. Brazil subs take bench. Mobile phone flashes on the ready waiting to click that moment when teams emerge from the tunnel. That “I was there” moment.
7:30 PM IST: For Germany, forward Dennis Jastrzembski is suspended for this quarter-final. While every Brazilian is getting a feel of the ball, the Germany starting line-up is going through fitness drills. Will they be feeling like Andre Pirlo did during warm-ups?
7:26 PM IST: The Germans are out with the ball. Stadium murmurs. Brazil come out in blue training shirts and Salt Lake stadium roars. Home away from home for these young Brazilians?
7:23 PM IST: Yannik Keitel, Germany’s midfielder, is out with a hamstring problem, says team media manager in the media tribune. But he could be available for the next round, he said. Keitel has played 282 minutes so far in Germany’s campaign.

7:21 PM IST: Goalkeepers of both teams, reserves and first teamers, are out on the pitch. As are the referees. USA’s Jair Marrufo is the man with the whistle tonight. His assistants are: Frank Anderson (USA), Corey Rockwell (USA), Jose Argote (Venezuela).
7:17 PM IST: Brazil left-back Weverson not included in starting line-up again. Had a back injury. On subs’ bench. No Keitel in Germany line-up either because of injury perhaps. He too is on sub’ bench.
7:15 PM IST:The playing XIs of both teams are here.
Brazil: Brazao; Wesley, Vitao, Halter, Bobsin, Paulinho, Antonio, Lincoln, Alan, Candido, Brenner.
Germany: Plogmann, Nitzl, Becker, Cetin, Arp, Abouchabaka, Kuehn, Vagnoman, Mai, Yeboah, Bisseck.
7:10 PM IST: Majority of the crowd isn’t wearing either team’s colours but even then the number of Brazil shirts would outnumber Germany by 7 to 1, according to eye estimates.
7:05 PM IST: Hello and welcome everyone!
This particular fixture brings back bad memories for Brazil fans. The last time these two countries clashed was in the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup in 2014, which was held in Brazil.
That fixture saw eventual cup winners Germany thump Brazil 7-1 at the Marcana, a defeat that ended the host nation’s hopes of winning the tournament at home for the first time.
Brazil’s young guns will undoubtedly have that fixture on mind as they look to extend their good run of form and aim to win a fourth FIFA U-17 World Cup. But Germany will prove a tougher nut to crack than their previous opponents.
