A senior CCB police officer said Dorai (24), along with his gang, had attacked one Sagar and one Madan Kumar in Ramamurthy Nagar in separate incidents. Byappanahalli police had arrested three people — Vijay, Mani and Vinodh — while Dorai was absconding.
Based on a tip-off that Dorai, along with some others, had plans to bump off a rival gang member, a CCB team was looking for him. The police went to nab him near Acharya College in the early hours of Saturday. In a bid to escape, he attacked head constable Narasimha Murthy with a dagger. Inspector Prakash Rathod warned Dorai to surrender and fired a shot in the air. When Dorai did not heed his warning, he shot Dorai in his right leg and took the constable to safety. Both the injured were immediately taken to a private hospital where they are recovering.
Dorai, a resident of Sanjaynagar in Old Byappanahalli, was involved in eight criminal cases including attempts to murder, assault and extortion. Dorai is also on the history sheet of Indiranagar police. He was involved in other cases registered in HAL, K T Puram and Byappanahalli police stations over the last five years and CCB police had issued a lookout notice for him.
