BENGALURU: A supervisor of the house keeping department at a private hospital near Corporation Circle allegedly raped a 22-year-old maid on the hospital premises on October 15. But when the already traumatised victim went to file a complaint at the Sampangiram Nagar police station, the policemen questioned her morality. She told Express, “When I went to the police station, the staff’s response was shocking. They humiliated me by asking, ‘how could the incident happen without your co-operation?’”
A senior police officer said that the complainant, a resident of Byatarayanapura, had joined the hospital’s house-keeping department just a month ago.

According to her, when she was working on the fourth floor, Ramanji (42), the supervisor, approached her and started talking in an inappropriate manner after snatching her mobile phone. She warned him over his behaviour and asked him to move away from there. Then he threatened her that he would make her lose her job and asked her to clean the bathroom in Room 407. When she went inside the bathroom, he followed her and locked it from inside. As she raised an alarm, he closed her mouth and allegedly raped her. He then threatened her that he would reveal about the incident to all the staff in the hospital if she complained to anyone.

When she reached home, her husband saw her crying and asked her the reason. Then she confided in him. Her husband and her brother took her along to the police station and filed a case. Police went to the hospital the next day and nabbed Ramanji. Police said that during the interrogation he confessed to the crime. He is married and has two children. He was commuting to work from Doddaballapur daily.
“The hospital hired Ramanji from an outsourcing agency and they had not verified his background. We are yet to ascertain whether he was involved in similar crimes earlier,” the officer told Express on Saturday.
