The National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCSC) is yet to receive the final report from the State Government on the circumstances that led to the demise of Anitha, the girl who had committed suicide at Ariyalur, after attempting the NEET examination.
Disclosing this to media in Kancheepuram on Friday, the vice-chairman, NCSC, L. Murugan said that the initial investigations by the Commission and as well as the State Government pointed to the possibility of `external forces’ driving the hapless girl to take the extreme step.
“However, the Commission which had received an interim report on this issue is yet to receive the final report”, he added.
In the meantime, the vice-chairman said, Dr.K.Krishnasamy of Puthiya Thamizhagam had submitted a memorandum to the Commission stating that there was a suspicion in the death of Anitha. This petition had been forwarded to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, the Ariyalur Collector and Superintendent of Police for investigation.
Scrap Warden-cum-Teacher posts
Responding to a question on the declining trend in admissions at the schools run by the Adhi Dravidar Welfare Department in the State, the NCSC vice-chairman opined that the practice of dual responsibility post `warden-cum-teacher’ was one among the reasons for poor performance.
“It is not that this factor alone is attributed as the cause for poor performance. Apart from delinking the teacher from the additional responsibility of the hostel warden, more numbers of teachers to be posted and a post for supervising the performance of these schools should be created. In short, the entire system should be revamped to achieve better results”, he added.
Exclusive training centers needed
As far as preparing the Adhi Dravidar students for taking up national-level or any other competitive examinations, training centers exclusively for Adhi Dravidar should be set up like the centers functioning in each District in Madhya Pradesh, he said.
