Had slipped out of the grill when lift got stuck

A 40-year-old man, who worked as a loader for a retail outlet at the popular GT World Mall on Magadi Road, was killed on Friday morning while operating the service elevator.

Srinivas was moving goods using the elevator, which has scissor gates, when it got stuck between the ground floor and the first floor.

According to two colleagues who were in the lift with him, he tried to manually restart the lift.

Lying flat on the floor, he slipped through the grill to reach for a switch under the lift cage.

Meanwhile, the lift suddenly started moving up.

Srinivas’s head was crushed as the elevator moved to the first floor.

The two other men in the lift raised an alarm, drawing the attention of the security guard who rushed to the spot. But by then, it was too late.

According to the police, Srinivas had started working in the mall three months ago. He is survived by his wife and two children, who are residents of Bhuvaneshwarinagar in K.P. Agrahara.

The jurisdictional K.P. Agrahara police are ascertaining why the lift got stuck. A case of death due to negligence has been registered against the administrators of the mall.
