Walkie-talkies, fire extinguishers to enhance safety at Hanuvantia

Heavy rush at ongoing Jal Mahotsav;  don’t worry, MPTDC tells tourists.

Indore : Following fire incident at Hanuvantia, the tourism department has decided to strengthen safety measures at the biggest water body of the country. Meanwhile, heavy inflow of tourists was witnessed in the ongoing Jal Mahotsav in the last two days following the festival of lamps.

Regional Office of MP Tourism Development Corporation has already ordered a probe into the fire incident and notice has been served to the event management company. As a precautionary measure, fire extinguishers and fire brigade vehicles have been stationed in the Jal Mahotsava area. A fire sub-station too has been set up to enhance coordination.


Meanwhile, tourist rush is on the rise in Jal-Mahotsava following Deepawali. A large number of tourists visited the spot on Friday and Saturday.

In order to ensure better coordination among administration, tourism department officials and event management company, the corporation has decided to arm them with walkie-talkies. An officer of MPTDC said that tourists have been requested to reach Hanuvantia as per their booking dates. MPTDC would take care of facilities.

On October 15, a fire broke out during inauguration of Jal-Mahotsava in the presence of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Following CM’s instructions, tourism secretary Hariranjan Rao convened a meeting of officers concerned and instructed them to take care of safety of tourists. He also warned officers against lapses. The meeting was attended by MD of MPTDC Chhavi Bhardwaj, officers of Khandwa district administration, Power Discom, MP Tourism Board, and event management company.
