Ujjain : About 370 employees of the police department, armed police force and para-military forces, who died in the line of duty at various places in the country, on September 1, 2016 and August 31, 2017 were fondly remembered on Police Martyr’s Day, here on Saturday.
All police employees and officials paid respect to the martyrs, during a programme in the morning at Shahid Smarak, Police Lines. IG V Madhukumar read out the list of martyrs. The IG, along with DIG Raman Singh Sikarwar, SP Sachin Atulkar, divisional commissioner MB Ojha, collector Sanket Bhondve, energy minister Paras Jain and Member of Parliament Chintamani Malviya placed wreaths on the martyr’s memorial. They also honoured martyr Arvind Singh Tomar’s father, Shamsher Singh Tomar.
In the evening, a candle march was held from Tower Chowk, which concluded at Shahid Park. Hundreds of police employees, besides social workers and youths participated in the candle march. A musical tribute programme was also arranged. Parents of some of the martyrs were felicitated. The felicitation ceremony was held in the presence of senior police and administrative officials.
