CHENNAI: To keep the political pot boiling in the wake of the factional rift within the ruling party, DMK working president M K Stalin has decided to launch an yatra aimed at consolidating the support base by reaching out to the grassroots level.

The delay in court verdict in a few cases, including the one praying for a floor test and another challenging disqualification of AIADMK rebel MLAs, too seem to have spurred the Leader of Opposition to hit the streets to connect with the people.

“We have planned to launch an awakening yatra starting from November first week and concluding in the first week of December. It will be on the lines of ‘Namakku Naame’ yatra I led before the last Assembly polls,” Stalin told reporters here on Friday after a meeting of district secretaries.

During his ‘Namakku Naame’ road show, he visited all districts and heard the public through sector-wise representatives, particularly from industries.

The yatra would highlight the ‘misgovernance’ in the State and the ‘abject surrender of the horse-trading government’, he said.

Party sources said the yatra is likely to start in Chennai on November 7 and a grand event is being planned to mark its launch. National leaders belonging to opposition parties will be invited to the event.
Stalin said he was still holding discussions with district secretaries and the tour schedule would be finalised in four-five days.
