The mega facility is to come up at Shayampeta Haveli village

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will lay the foundation for the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park at Shayampeta Haveli village of Geesukonda mandal in Warangal Rural district on Sunday afternoon.

Besides the Mega Textile Park, he will lay the stone for various development works, including Warangal Outer Ring Road, a parallel bridge to Kazipet Road Over Bridge, and expansion of Madikonda IT Incubator centre.

Public meeting

Later, the Chief Minister would address a public meeting.

The proposed project envisages ploughing back economic benefits of the park to local people by catering to all activities in the textile value chain, according to a release.

The large project would be implemented in a phased manner, depending on market demand, and would ensure availability of fabric, accessories and manpower for 75 % of sales value of garments.

Telangana is one of the largest producers of long staple cotton with production of around 60 lakh bales per annum.

Migration

The State was known for skilled textile workers but due to absence of industry, they migrated to other States for livelihood.

Warangal is the major cotton-producing district and trading centre in the State with a strong presence of textile clusters, famous for Warangal durries and skilled manpower. After bifurcation, 75 % of the cotton growing areas remained in the State but with only 20% of spinning capacity.

Value addition

As a result, most cotton would go to neighbouring States for value addition and so also cotton yarn.

The objective of the integrated textile park is to reverse this by utilising a major part of the cotton grown in the State.
