Condition of girl who jumped from school building remains critical

The condition of the Class X girl who jumped from the third storey of her school building on Friday here continues to be highly critical. She is on ventilator at a private hospital in Thiruvanathapuram.

The Kollam West police have registered a case against two women teachers of the school. Case had been registered under Sections 305 (Abetment of suicide committed by child), 511(attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment) and 34 (criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.

Doctors said she had suffered serious internal injuries and had broken ribs. One of the ribs had pierced a lung. The police said that a teacher had punished the girl’s younger sister, a student of Class VII, by asking her to sit with the boys in the class. Her parents objected to it. In the interim, a section of the class questioned the younger sister as to what was wrong with the punishment. On Friday, during lunch break, the girl raised the issue with those who questioned her sister. It is alleged that the teachers admonished her for it, after which the girl jumped from the third floor. The CCTV cameras of the school have captured the incident and the police have seized the clippings.

Another case

The police on Saturday registered another case against a teacher of the same school for allegedly slapping a boy inside the chemistry lab last week. The case was registered following a complaint from the boy’s mother.
