His contribution for establishment of steel plant recalled

The contribution of T. Amrutha Rao, who fought for the establishment of the Visakhapatna Steel Plant, was recalled at his 97th birth anniversary organised by the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited here on Saturday.

RINL Director (Projects) P.C. Mohapatra garlanded the statue of Amrutha Rao and paid floral tributes to him. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mohapatra said the freedom fighter took an active part in the ‘Visakha Ukku Andhrula Hakku’ agitation for setting up of the integrated steel plant in the city.

He also remembered the sacrifices made by others during the agitation for establishing India’s first shore-based steel plant.

Earlier, RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan released a souvenir brought in the memory of the great fighter. Grandson of late Amrutha Rao T. Mohan Gandhi participated in the programme.

Senior officials of the RINL, representatives of the Steel Executive Association, union leaders and the SC & ST Association and a large number of employees offered rich tributes to Amrutha Rao.
