THANE: A 69-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh was arrested by the Thane anti-narcotics cell for his involvement in manufacturing heroine worth Rs 40 lakh that was seized last week.

This is the second arrest after the police nabbed Mumbra resident Sonu Shaggir Ahmed Ansari from Thane station on October 12 with 490 grams of the consignment.

"Based on information provided by Ansari, our team came to know about the source of the contraband. Three teams were dispatched to Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh," said a cop.

Our team faced stiff resistance from locals while arresting Abdul Gani Khan, added the officer.

It is learnt that two more persons were supposed to be arrested, but due to resistance from locals, the cops decided against it. A cop said that the place was infamous for opium farming. Even though it is legal for medicinal purpose, excess production is smuggled across the country. — Nishikant Karlikar
