Reeth Rishya clinches state Table Tennis championship title

Winners of various categories of the Tamil Nadu state table tennis championship.

CHENNAI: Reeth Rishya of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) defeated N Vidya of ITRC 11-8, 7-11,11-5, 9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8 in the women’s final of the Tamil Nadu table tennis state championship organised by CTTF and Kancheepuram District Table Tennis Association at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

Men: E Prabhakaran (SRSA) bt 7-11, 12-10, 12-14, 11-6, 4-11, 13-11,13-11. Boys: Youth: R.Santhosh Kumar (RTTA) bt G Piyush Sagar (Erd) 7-11, 7-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8. Junior: G Piyush Sagar (Erd) bt Arjun K Raju 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-5. Sub junior: D Vishwa (KTTC) bt S Preyesh (Mdx) 7-11, 6-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8. Cadet: S Preyesh (Mdx) bt MR Balamurugan (Vinwin) 11-9, 11-5, 11-7. Minicadet: PB Abhinandh (Ch ach) bt K Umesh (Mdx) 11-6, 11-2, 11-3. Women: T Reeth Rishya (IOC) bt N Vidya (Itrc) 11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8. Girls: Youth: V Kowshika (Ssaerd) bt Abinaya Ramesh (Gvg-Tpr) 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-4, 11-13, 11-8. Balasubramaniam bags title

H Balasubramaniam of Padma Seshadri Higher Secondary School (KK Nagar) won the 17th Adyar Times FIDE rated Open chess tournament. An eighth standard student, Balasubramaniam carried home `25,000. He demonstrated great skill and composure in taming former Tamil Nadu state champion Ram S Krishnan in the seventh and the final round, to set a winner’s target of 6.5 points. In a three-way tie for the first place Balasubramaniam was adjudged as the champion on account of better Buchholz score. The runner-up was R Ashwath of Chennai who was awarded Rs 15,000.
