CHENNAI: The Prince of Arcot has asked politicians to stop polarising the country on communal lines. In light of the recent events in which the Taj Mahal was termed as a ‘blot on indian culture’, the Prince in a statement said, “History will remain as history and neither can it be changed or erased, at any time.”
He said that forces of pseudo-nationalism parading as patriots are trying to destroy secularism and observed that India has always been a confluence of many cultures.

The Prince, Mohammed Abdul Ali, pointed out how the Mughals who ruled a huge chunk of the modern day India for three centuries had never tried to make India an Islamic or Muslim nation. “As a matter of fact, peace, communal harmony, respect for other religions and coexistence of people existed, during their centuries-old rule.”

The Prince appealed to all fellow citizens to safeguard peace, amity, tolerance and secularism and to defend democratic values, the Constitution and the rule of law, at all times, and never come under the influence of such vested interests, who are bent upon dividing the country and the peace-loving people of our great secular country, India.
