Porvorim: Minister for women and child development Vishwajit Rane said his ministry has received a proposal from Vendanta Ltd, a mining company, to renovate and reconstruct about 59 anganwadis that are in bad shape.

"They have also identified the locations of these needy anganwadis," Rane said, speaking to the media on Friday. Rane said he has already taken cognizance of the anganwadis which are in dilapidated condition. Anganwadis that are operating from residencies would also be shifted, he added.

"I have issued directions to shift children enrolled with those anganwadis to safer places until they are repaired," Rane said, adding he has called for detailed presentation next week about the status of the anganwadis in the state.

Rane said that though the PWD has built five new anganwadis, he is "not in a position to put them to use as none have toilets."
