Minister promises Ashraya housesto people displaced by floodwaters

33 houses damaged as Mantur tank overflows following excessive rainfall

Minister for Mines and Geology and district in-charge Vinay Kulkarni has assured Mantur residents who lost their houses due to the overflowing tank of providing alternative shelter.

Accompanied by the former Minister and MLC Basavaraj Horatti, president of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Chaitra Shirur and officials, Mr. Kulkarni paid a visit to the gruel centre and the temporary shelter provided for the displaced people on Wednesday.

Due to excessive rainfall in the last few days, Mantur tank, which filled to the brim, overflowed causing extensive damage to 33 houses in the village.

Floodwaters and excessive rainfall have also caused partial damage to 136 houses in Mantur village located on the outskirts of Hubballi.

The Minister interacted with the displaced people and assured them of providing alternative shelter. He told them that the government would build Ashraya houses for them. After hearing the grievances of the women at the temporary shelter, Mr. Kulkarni told them that if private individuals came forward to give land, the government would purchase it and build houses on it for the affected people.

Mr. Basavaraj Horatti also consoled the affected people and assured them of necessary help.

Earlier, along with Deputy Commissioner S.B. Bommanahalli, Superintendent of Police Sangeeta, Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Kharjagi, Hubballi Tahsildar Shashidhar Madyal, the Minister and others visited places affected by floodwaters in the village.

They also sought details from the administration on the relief measures taken so far and what it had planned to mitigate the sufferings of the displaced people.
