Nagpur: Musicians rendered a mix of morning ragas to welcome the festival of lights at 'Swar Prabhat' concert jointly organized by Swarved and Chitnavis Centre on Friday morning.
The songs were a combination of classical and semi-classical music rendered by Manjushree Soman, Shruti Dive, Aman Ghormade. The accompanying artistes were Praveen Kawale (violin) and Ravi Satfale (tabla). Radhika De anchored the programme.
Each singer performed a mix of ragas and bhajans in Hindi and Marathi. Soman presented 'Mangal gavo' and 'Mai toh jaagi'. Ghormade sang 'Ahir Bhairav bandish', 'Dom tara re tani' a bhajan in praise of Goddess Bhairavi.
Dive delighted the audience with 'Albela Sajan Aayo Re' and 'Aata kuthe dhave maan'. Violinist Kawale presented raga Ahir Bhairav and 'Payoji maine Ram ratan dhan payo'.
The programme was in tune with the city's trend of Diwali Pahat programmes when people wake up early in the morning to welcome the new year. Director of Chitnavis Centre Mohan Sarwate said, "For many castes, Diwali is a new year. So they wake up early in the morning and begin the year on a positive note, and bhajans and ragas are part of it."
Sarwate said Swarved has been organizing morning ragas during Diwali for the last four years and Chitnavis Centre wants to encourage this trend. "This is one festival when people are in a joyous mood when compared to others. Such musical presentations in the morning is a good way to celebrate," he said.
"We wish to continue holding this programme every year and are looking for new artistes who have specialized in classical and semi-classical music," said Sarwate. Members of the audience were dressed in festive attire and enthralled by the musicians.
