Every bride wants to stand out and look her beautiful best on her wedding. From make-up, jewellery, wedding dress, to heels and photographs, everything needs to be perfect. While, other things are pretty much managed it is the final look of the bride that really counts. To look top-notch and to get that flawless glow, many to-be brides visit expensive parlour, go through extensive treatments and spend exorbitant amount of money to getting the right look. While these costly and quick procedures will give you a day’s beauty, they may not last longer than that. So, instead of relying on these temporary procedures, we bring to you a more permanent and less costly solution. And the best part is that you can do all these at home.

Dr Deepali Bharadwaj, a well-known Delhi-based dermatologist, has helped us curate a distinctive list of all the popular grandma’s recommendations that will help you achieve that glow in the vicinity of your home.

Step 1: Start Early

First and foremost, don’t wait till the last month or week. Start way earlier than that to make sure that no last moment glitches spoil things for you. Dr Bharadwaj advises, “It is best to start at least two to three months ahead of your wedding day. As the day approaches, women tend to feel the pressure and it can show on their face.” Make sure you are regular with the regime to get maximum benefits from it.

Step 2: Diet

“External beauty is easy to get but real beauty comes from within and that only good eating can provide,” she says, with a suggestion of eating a mix of red, yellow, purple and green fruits and vegetables. “These (fruits and veggies) contain anti-oxidants, which are very good for the face as well as the body.” In terms of food, increase an intake of fatty acids – if you are a non-vegetarian include fish in your diet. For vegetarians, eat foods like soya beans, Tofu. Increase your water intake and make sure that you at least drink three liters of water per day. Avoid drinking coffee or tea after food and include flax seeds in your diet. “You can add one spoon of flax seeds with oats and eat them everyday.” For all those who consume alcohol or smoke, this probably is the best time to quit.

Step 3: Face Glow Masks

There are different face masks and regimes that suit particular skin type. Dr Bharadwaj recommends the following, according to the texture and type of your skin. She also suggest that these should be applied regularly and not as a last moment treatment. These face masks clean the pore and bring freshness to your skin.

For Normal skin: Lemon Juice + Multani Mitti should be taken in equal quantity and applied on the face and neck. Leave this mask till it dries and them wash it with warm water. The same regime can be used for Oily skin but instead of using water, remove the mask with rose water.

For Dry Skin: Honey + Rose water + Curd should be taken in equal quantity and applied on the face and neck. Leave till it dries and then wash it with lukewarm water.

For Combination Skin: For people who don’t know their skin type or have a combination skin, use a mix of oily and normal skin regime. “As per the requirement of the skin, separate face packs can be applied.”

She also suggests a natural daily wash for normal skin type: Aloe Vera (1 tbsp) + Tomato (1 tbsp) + Lemon (1/2 tbsp). Apply this mix on the face and neck for 15 minutes and then wash it off with water.

Step 4: Body Glow

Oil: After having a bath, regularly moisturise your skin with oil. If putting oil is not possible, then add two-three drops of oil (virgin coconut oil, Olive oil) and have a neck down bucket bath with it. Oil not only moisturises the skin but also forms a protective layer preventing insect bites, rashes and skin issues. Using oil daily will also reduce tan.

Basin and Haldi: Use this pack for the medicinal effects of Haldi and scrub essence of Basin. Apply it all over your body and keep it for five minutes. Multani mitti can also be used for body glow. Wash the body pack with normal to lukewarm water.

It is also not recommended to experiment with any new facial treatment or creams at least 10 days before final day. Waxing, haircuts, manicure and other parlour procedures should be done in advance to avoid any last moment crises. Regular physical exercise and meditation also helps in maintaining body balance, which enhances the glow.
